“Advanced Insurance Practice Workshop”
The passage of laws requiring private insurance and Medicaid to cover medically necessary ABA therapy has been a catalyst for systemic change in the system of care for thousands of people with autism in Massachusetts. This has created opportunities for behavior analysts, but has also had profound implications for the profession.
This three-hour advanced workshop will provide an overview for providers, explaining the laws that mandate coverage of ABA, the provider’s role and how it has evolved over the last eight years, and legal aspects that providers need to be aware of. Topics include:
- Policy Background
- Implications for Patients and Clinicians
- Medical, Regulatory and Ethical Issues faced by providers
- Legal Aspects, including:
- Understanding your provider contract rights and obligations
- How to support medical necessity appeals
- How to respond and minimize risks related to Recoupments, audits, prepayment and retrospective reviews, and fraud investigations
- Common coding and billing errors
- Medical necessity appeals under state laws and federal parity protections
